Experience Yoga on the Volcano Island of Stromboli

The YogAyur Retreat at Ginostra is an exclusive retreat, we accommodate our guests in typical houses with sea view beautifully decorated terraces.  We are completely surrounded by lemon trees, figs and cactus and endless flowers.

The atmosphere at YogAyur Retreats is intimate and cosy, when we don’t have classes or workshops we love to  enjoy the extremely clear and calm Mediterranean see, walk around the Island, spend real relaxing time in the little bar  down the tiny center with his romantic terrace,  plunge in the untamed and rugged nature, or rest in the comfortable, cool spaces of the houses and terraces.

Last but not least, meals are beautiful moments to share healthy food and convivial moments.

YogAyur Retreat is about totally getting away, magic, nature, wellness, transformation and rejuvenation. Our wish is create an experience that inspires peace, abundance, serenity and mindful living. Being off the grid (sometimes) also allows our guests the opportunity to have an authentic digital detox!

A Brief Look of the Island

Stromboli is the most dramatic of the Aeolian Islands, an ancient and active volcano rising massively from the Mediterranean, with a couple of small settlements on the coast. It is an incredible and awe-inspiring sight, with a unique island atmosphere that attracts not just tourists but also film-makers and style-setters. Stromboli has been inhabited for thousands of years and then life on the island was based on farming the fertile ground near the shores, and on fishing. By the middle of the twentieth century, prompted by a big eruption in 1930 which damaged buildings, and by the prospects of emigration, many of the islanders had departed and the population had dwindled. But after Roberto Rossellini’s 1950 film Stromboli terra di Dio drew attention to the island-volcano’s unique attractions, tourism began to give new life to Stromboli.

Ginostra is a peaceful tiny village on the opposite side of Stromboli to the main settlement, on the south-western shore, and can only be reached by boat. The hamlet was only connected for electricity in 2004.
It is a little sun drenched paradise, truly a place where you can unwind and merge with nature and self. Here, modern distraction become a distant memory. The village s composed of white typical houses and some quite and nice inhabitant, and two donkeys, Rocco and Rocky. This is truly a magical place to practice the art and joy of yoga.

Personally experiencing this island is TREMENDOUSLY POWERFUL!
you can really feel the volcano and its energy, both because you can hear it almost every hour and because it comes up trough the ground.
You perceive how important is to hold steady to your most dominant anchor, to ground yourselves and remain rooted in your foundational beliefs. The volcano urges us to not be shaken by external ripples. Rather, sink deeply into the cool, rich strata that is the depth of our knowledge and remain there for solace, guidance and assurance that our foundations can serve as constant refuge.
